  Section 3 - Hazards Identification

Emergency Overview

Vapors may cause irritation to nose, throat and respiratory tract. High vapor concentrations may result in central nervous system (CNS) depression. Symptoms may include drowsiness, weakness, headache, dizziness and nausea.

Label Information

High vapor concentrations of this product may result in central nervous system (CNS) depression.

Potential Health Effects:  Eyes

Slightly irritating, but will not injure eye tissue.

Potential Health Effects:  Skin

Liquid is slightly irritating to the skin. Prolonged or repeated liquid contact can result in defatting and drying of the skin, which may result in skin irritation and dermatitis.

Potential Health Effects:  Ingestion

Ingestion of product may result in vomiting. Aspiration must be avoided as even small quantities may result in aspiration pneumonitis.

Potential Health Effects:  Inhalation

Vapors may cause irritation to nose, throat and respiratory tract. High vapor concentrations may result in central nervous system (CNS) depression. Symptoms may include drowsiness, weakness, headache, dizziness and nausea.

Medical Conditions Aggravated By Exposure

If more that 2.0 ml per kg has been ingested and vomiting has not occurred, emesis should be induced with supervision. Keep victim's head below hips to prevent aspiration. If symptoms such as a loss of gag reflex, convulsions or unconsciousness occur before emesis, gastric lavage using a cuffed endotracheal tube should be considered.

Section 4 - First Aid Measures

First Aid:  Eyes

Immediately flush eyes with water for at least 15 minutes, while holding eyelids open.  Seek medical attention at once.

First Aid:  Skin

Remove contaminated clothing/shoes. Flush skin with water. Wash with soap and water. If irritation occurs, get medical attention. Do not reuse clothing until cleaned.

First Aid:  Ingestion

Do not induce vomiting. If vomiting occurs spontaneously, keep head below hips to prevent aspiration of liquid into the lungs. Get medical attention.

First Aid:  Inhalation

Remove victim to fresh air and provide oxygen if breathing is difficult. Give artificial respiration if not breathing. Get medical attention.

First Aid:  Notes to Physician

Provide general supportive measures and treat symptomatically.

Section 5 - Fire Fighting Measures

Flash Point:  63 C

Method Used:  TCC

Upper Flammable Limit (UFL):  7

Lower Flammable Limit (LFL):  1

Auto Ignition:  N/D

Flammability Classification:  N/D

Rate of Burning:  N/D

General Fire Hazards

Containers exposed to intense heat from fires should be cooled with water to prevent vapor pressure buildup which could result in container rupture. Container areas exposed to direct flame contact should be cooled with large quantities as needed to prevent weakening of container structure. Includes oxides of carbon and nitrogen.

Hazardous Combustion Products

Extinguishing Media

Use water fog, foam, carbon dioxide, dry chemical.

Fire Fighting Equipment/Instructions

Do not use a direct stream of water. Product will float and can be re-ignited on surface of water. Caution-Combustible. Do not enter confined fire space without full bunker gear (helmet with face shield, bunker coats, gloves and rubber boots), including a positive pressure NIOSH approved self-contained breathing apparatus. Cool fire exposed containers with water.

NFPA Ratings: Health: 2 Fire: 2 Reactivity: 0

Hazard Scale:  0 = Minimal  1 = Slight  2 = Moderate  3 = Serious  4 = Severe

Section 6 - Accidental Release Measures

Containment Procedures

Caution-Combustible.

Large Spills: Eliminate potential sources of ignition. Wear appropriate respirator and other protective clothing. Shut off source of lead only if safe to do so. Dike and contain. Remove with vacuum trucks or pump to storage/salvage vessel.

Small Spills: Take up with absorbent material and place in non-leaking containers for proper disposal.

Clean-Up Procedures

Soak up residue with an absorbent such as clay sand or other suitables. Place in non-leaking containers and seal tightly for proper disposal. Flush area with water to remove trace residue. Dispose of flush solution.

Evacuation Procedures

Evacuate the area promptly and keep upwind of the spilled material. Isolate the spill area to prevent people from entering.

Special Procedures

Have emergency equipment readily available.

Section 7 - Handling and Storage

Handling Procedures

Do not pressurize drum containers to empty them. Static electricity may acumulate and create a fire hazard. Ground fixed equipment. Bond and ground transfer containers and equipment. Wash with soap and water before eating, drinking, smoking, applying cosmetics or using toilet facilities. Launder contaminated clothing before reuse. Air-dry contaminated clothing in a well ventilated area before laundering.

Storage Procedures

Keep liquid and vapor away from heat, sparks and flame. Surfaces that are sufficiently hot may ignite even liquid product in the absence of sparks or flame. Extinguish pilot lights, cigarettes and turn off all sources of ignition distant from the handling site, flash-fire can result. Keep containers closed when not in use. use with adequate ventilation. Containers, even those that have been emptied, can contain explosive vapors. Do not cut, drill, grind, weld or perform similar operations on or near containers.

Section 8 - Exposure Controls / Personal Protection

Exposure Guidelines

A: General Product Information

Eye wash and safety showers are recommended in the workplace.

B: Component Exposure Limits

ACGIH, OSHA, and NIOSH have not developed exposure limits for any of this product's components.

Engineering Controls

Use explosion proof ventilation required to control vapor concentrations.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

Personal Protective Equipment:  Eyes/Face

Avoid contact with eyes. Wear safety glasses or goggles as appropriate

Personal Protective Equipment:  Skin

Avoid prolonged contact with skin. Wear chemical-resistant gloves (nitrile) and other clothing as required to minimize contact.

Personal Protective Equipment:  Respiratory

Avoid prolonged or repeated breathing of vapors. If exposure may or does exceed occupations exposure limits use a NIOSH-approved respirator to prevent overexposure. In accordance with 29 CFR 1910.132 use either an atmosphere-supplying respirator or an air-purifying respirator for organic vapors.

Personal Protective Equipment:  General

Respirators should be selected by and used under the direction of a trained health and safety professional following requirements found in OSHA's respirator standard (29 CFR 1910.134) and ANSI's standard for respiratory protection (Z88.2-1992). A written respiratory protection program, including provisions for medical certification, training, fit testing, exposure assessments, maintenance, inspection, cleaning, and convenient, sanitary storage must be implemented.
